12 yr old girl knocked unconscious by car

A YOUNG girl and a jogger in his 50s are in a critical condition after being struck by cars on Queensland roads this weekend.

The 12-year-old girl was knocked unconscious when she was struck by a car when she walked on to the road at the intersection of the Gold Coast Highway and Hooker Boulevard in Broadbeach on the Gold coast about 5pm yesterday, police said.

She was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition with serious head injuries and was later transferred to Brisbane’s Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital.

An ambulance spokesman said the girl was in and out of consciousness on the way to hospital.

The female driver has assisted police with their inquiries. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

A 53-year-old was also left in a critical condition after being struck by a car last night.

It is believed he was running across Flinders St at the intersection of Fletcher Street in Townsville when he was struck by a car about 10.30pm.

He was taken to Townsville Hospital in a critical but stable condition.

A Queensland Ambulance Services spokeswoman said the man was unconscious on arrival and “wasn’t in a good way”.

The 68-year-old male driver remained at the scene and assisted police with their inquiries. Investigations are continuing.
