British Indycar driver Justin Wilson has died from the head injury sustained during Sunday's race at the Pocono Raceway.

The 37-year-old had been fighting for his life at a hospital in Allentown, Pennsylvania, after being struck by debris during the race.

Fellow driver Sage Karam was leading, and was just 21 laps from experiencing a dream come true when he spun out of control and crashed on a turn.

A major piece from the front of Karam's car went airborne and hit Wilson in the head as Wilson's car was coming through the accident scene. Wilson was left unconscious and his car ended up hitting an inside wall.

Wilson was airlifted by MedEvac helicopter to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest in Salisbury Township where it was announced he was in a coma and in critical condition after suffering a severe head injury.

Shortly after news of Wilson's death broke on Tuesday, Karam tweeted his condolences.
