FORMER Brisbane Lion Albert Proud allegedly bashed his girlfriend so severely that she suffered a brain haemorrhage, after they returned from a friend’s wedding.

Coincidentally, it was the bride and groom who rescued the victim as she fled into the street.

Proud, 27, has been charged with attempted murder over the attack that has left 35-year-old Richelle Kadadi in a coma and fighting for life.

Police will allege Proud bashed the petite blonde after they returned home to Sunnybank from the wedding.

They will allege she fled from him into the street and the occupants of a passing car, by coincidence the couple whose wedding they had just attended, stopped to help.

The newlyweds took Ms Kadadi to the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Hospital. She was later transferred to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition.

Ms Kadadi suffered severe head and facial injuries, including a brain bleed, and remains in a coma. A hospital spokeswoman said her condition was critical but stable.

Friends had described Proud and his new girlfriend as a “super couple”, with the pair posting romantic photographs and messages on social media.

A police source said the couple had only been together for a few months.

On October 26, Ms Kadadi, who has a young son from a previous relationship, wrote a gushing post about the new man in her life.

“Not only has he nursed me through a really rough two weeks health-wise, looked after my little boy and kept the smile on my face … I’ve just woken up this morning to a note from Albert Proud that he’s booked me into a day spa today to give me some rest,” she wrote.

“My mind is absolutely blown and I’m so blessed to have this selfless, loving man in my world.

“I’m so in love Proudy.”

The doting mother posted often about her young son and shared dozens of photographs of them spending time together.

She also talked about Proud looking after her while she had tonsillitis and a toothache.

“He came back from the chemist one day with a bag full of stuff saying he pretty much bought everything to try and make the pain go away,” she wrote.

He replied with: “Baby, just don’t make me out to be a big softie. I still gotta hold down the badass reputation here on FB — jokes. Enjoy it my Queen.”

A police source said the pair had only been together a few months. Ms Kadadi announced the relationship on her Facebook page in August.

Police said it was a miracle Ms Kadadi survived the attack.

A hospital spokeswoman said her condition was listed as critical but stable. The doting mother posted often about her young son and shared dozens of photographs of them together.

Police have charged the footballer with attempted murder, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and wilful damage.

The matter was heard briefly in court yesterday morning. Proud did not apply for bail.

He is expected to appear again on November 19.

Proud played 29 games for the Brisbane Lions and has more recently played for Mt Gravatt Vultures.
