Three teens critical after Melbourne crash
UPDATE: THE teenager driver of a car was believed to be speeding and ran a red light before crashing into a truck in Melbourne’s north, leaving himself and a passenger fighting for life, police say.
Detective Sergeant David Newman told 3AW the silver Volkswagen was travelling west and “T-boned” the 23-tonne truck travelling southbound at 3.45am on the corner of Somerton Rd and Dennis St, Somerton.
Rescue crews took an hour to cut four males, all aged in their late teens, from the car.

The driver, aged, 17 and a passenger sustained critical head injuries and were taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital and The Alfred hospital.
Another teen suffered head, chest and arm injuries, while his friend is being treated for pelvic and leg injuries. Both are in a serious but stable condition at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
The truck driver, a man in his 20s, suffered cuts and bruises.
Det-Sgt Newman said the force of the impact tipped the truck on its side, trapping the car.
He said witnesses estimated the car was travelling more than 100km/h in the 80km/h zone.
He said the teenagers were locals.
“They would know the area,” he told 3AW.
“The car wasn’t stolen.”
