THE 32-year-old man who allegedly assaulted a man outside a KFC has had his charge upgraded to murder.

The life support of Wayne Tolme, a 50-year-old labourer from Queensland, was switched off last night after he received a deadly punch to the head in a Morayfield carpark.

A previous charge of grievous bodily harm was handed down to the man yesterday, but it has since been upgraded to murder.

The man appeared in the tCaboolture Magistrates Cour on June 2 and did not apply for bail, but will return to court today to have the new charges heard.

EARLIER: The latest coward punch victim had only recently arrived in Queensland before he was attacked, according to family.

Life support was last night switched off to Wayne Tolme, 50, a labourer from Sydney.

It is alleged Mr Tolme received a deadly punch to the head in the carpark of KFC Morayfield, north of Brisbane, on Wednesday night.

He reportedly dropped to the ground and suffered cardiac arrest.

Paramedics said extensive CPR was needed to revive him.

The alleged attacker, Conrad Joseph Carter, was brought before Caboolture Magistrates Court yesterday, where he did not request bail, and had the matter adjourned to August 4.

The 32-year-old alleged attacker has been charged with one count of grievous bodily harm.

A police media spokesperson said a decision whether to upgrade charges was under consideration.

Prosecutors have requested CCTV footage which may shed light on the fatal incident.

A family member told The Courier-Mail that Mr Tolme, who had been in a critical condition in the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, suffered swelling on the Caboolture.

Family kept a vigil throughout the day but Mr Tolme’s condition did not improve.

“They switched the life support off and it was up to him if he could pull through or not,” the relative said.

“He lives in Sydney but apparently he came up here to clear his head and he had only been back in Queensland one night when this happened.

“I’ve heard mixed reports of what happened.

“One story is that there was an argument inside KFC and they’ve take it outside, and he’s been king hit and the guy’s stomped on his head.

“The other version is that he was acting aggressive and drunk, which I don’t believe, and then old mate’s hit him in the head.”

The relative said the family was in shock.

“He’s a father. He has older children. I think he’s got grandkids.”
