Man bashed after being chased by thugs in Footscray

A GANG of youths attacked a man during an attempted armed robbery in Footscray.

The 26-year-old Footscray man was left with injuries to his neck and head.

But despite initial demands, nothing was stolen from him.

Investigators have been told the Footscray man was walking along French St about 10.30pm.

Two youths approached the man and threatened him with a knife as he reached the intersection of Albert St.

Another two youths joined the pair and they chased the man down French St.

The group caught the man and assaulted him.

Police have been told the group of men was last seen heading west along Pickett St.

Paramedics treated the man at the scene before taking him to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
