Two people have been charged after a woman was left partially blind in one eye following an assault and robbery in Sydney's east.

A 38-year-old woman was walking to her scooter in Maroubra on Sunday night when she found a teenage girl sitting on it.

After the woman asked the girl to get off it, she was punched and kicked to the head before falling to the ground where the assault continued, police said.

Her handbag, containing a purse, phone and keys, was also stolen during the attack.

Police said the woman's companion, a 37-year-old man, was also approached by two men who punched him in the face and threw him to the ground.

A number of witnesses came to the aid of the man and woman and attempted to intervene in the attack when they were also assaulted.

The scooter was pushed over and kicked a number of times.

The woman was treated by paramedics and taken to Prince of Wales Hospital for treatment of serious facial and head injuries, including partial loss of sight in one eye.

The 37-year-old man and another man, aged 43, also received treatment for facial injuries.

Police arrested a 17-year-old girl and 20-year-old man yesterday afternoon.

The girl was charged with aggravated robbery with wounding, affray and destroy/damage property.

She was refused bail to appear in Bidura Children's Court today.

Police subsequently conducted a search warrant at a house and allegedly found the woman's stolen bag, as well as an amount of cannabis and methylamphetamine.

The man was also charged with a variety of offences and was refused bail to appear in Waverley Local Court today.
