Kings Cross brawl life support tragedy: arrest made

A man has been arrested in connection with the fatal beating in Kings Cross of Sydney father Wilson Duque Castillo.

Life support for 33-year-old Mr Duque Castillo was switched off on January 3, after he was critically injured in a brawl outside the Trademark Hotel on December 18.

Former rugby league player John Hopoate, who works as a bouncer at the hotel, has been charged over a related incident.

He was taken to Parramatta police station.

Mr Duque Castillo's widow, Raquel Duque, has been appealing for information about what happened to her husband so she can explain when the couple's four-month-old son, Dylan, is old enough to know.

Police say Mr Duque Castillo and two other men were refused access to the hotel by bouncers.

It alleged one of the men threatened the bouncers and that led to a chase along Bayswater Road to Darlinghurst Road.

Mr Duque Castillo suffered serious head injuries and was taken to St Vincent's Hospital, where he was placed on life support after surgery.

Police are appealing to anyone who saw the altercation or circumstances leading up to it to contact Kings Cross detectives via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
