A WOMAN who was abducted and assaulted in Blackburn yesterday has suffered serious head injuries.

The 21-year-old woman was at a bungalow at the back of an O'Hara St block when she was attacked by a person believed to be her ex-boyfriend.

Police confirmed they believe the matter to be "domestic related'' and are in the process of hunting down the callous attacker.

At about 6.30pm, the woman's friends left her alone to go down the street for a short time.

Upon their return, they heard screams in the backyard of the property, which backs onto a vacant lot, and saw the woman being forced into a silver Toyota Camry sedan, police said.

The woman was then driven to a service station at the corner of Warrandyte and Loughnan Roads in Ringwood. A passerby witnessed her being assaulted in the vehicle and called police.

The Ringwood woman was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with serious head injuries.

Detectives from Boroondara Crime Investigation Unit are appealing for anyone who may have seen a silver Toyota Camry sedan driving in the Blackburn and Ringwood areas, in particular anyone who may have witnessed the assault at the service station at about 7.15pm.
