Teenage boy bashed in front of family

Police said the teenager was with several family and friends on the way home from a Hungry Jacks when the attack took place early yesterday morning.

They were walking along Cunningham Crescent, Pakehham, near Sikes Court, when they were confronted by a large group of 10 to 20 youths.

There was verbal exchange and one member of the larger group punched the victim, who fell and hit his head on the road.

The injured 17-year-old was helped home but woke up later on Sunday morning in a bad state, police spokesman Senior Constable Julie-Anne Newman said.

He was flown to the Alfred Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the assault or anyone with information to contact
