A teenage girl has been charged over an alleged hit-and-run crash in north Sydney which left a cyclist in a critical condition, police say.

The 65-year-old was thrown from his bicycle as he was struck on Eastern Valley Way at Northbridge just before midnight on Saturday.

It's alleged the driver of the car didn't stop after the accident.

The cyclist was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital with head injuries, a fractured right arm and leg, and a collapsed lung.

Police say the driver, a 17-year-old P-plater from Forestville, attended Chatswood Police Station on Sunday, where she was charged with failing to stop after a collision, occasioning grievous bodily harm.

She was bailed to appear before Hornsby Children's Court on June 24.
