What is Brain Injury?

Brain injury can be a devastating disability, and given the brain’s complexity and the differences in the types, locations, and extent of damage, the effects of a brain injury can be wide and varied. Some occur immediately, and some may take days or even years to appear.

The most common after effects of undiagnosed concussion and head trauma are memory issues, drug and alcohol dependency, anger outbursts family violence, road rage and criminality. Any one of the symptoms can alter or devastate a person’s life, and brain injury is made all the more difficult by the fact that it’s often hard to see and just as often misdiagnosed or dismissed as “personality problems” or a perceived mental disorder. But in fact, it is a serious and legitimate illness where sufferers deserve all the help and support they can get.

The Human Brain

The human brain in an incredible thing! It’s one of the most complex and least understood parts of the human body, but science is making new advances every day that tell us more about the brain.

The average human brain is 5.5 inches wide and 3.6 inches high. When we’re born, our brains weigh about 2 pounds, while the adult brain weighs about 3 pounds.

The brain accounts for about 2% of your total body weight, but it uses 20% of your body’s energy!

It sends out more electrical impulses in one day than all the telephones in the world, and it’s estimated that the brain thinks about 70,000 thoughts in a 24-hour period.

A SCRAPPY fight between two teenage girls turned dirty when one of the brawlers clobbered the other with a shovel.

A video of the fight, shared online on Monday, has already become a viral sensation, inspiring scores of remixes and even a fake death report.

But the foul-mouthed 16-year-old who was hit in the head with the shovel took to Twitter on Tuesday to declare she was in fact alive and well.

“I’M THE GIRL that got hit in the head with the shovel lol … I’m not dead.. Idk why there’s rumors saying I am,” wrote Miranda Fugate, whose profile said she “smokes weed for a living”.

The original eight-minute clip, which is available on YouTube but contains strong language, shows a fist fight between Miranda and another girl, identified as Emily Powers, escalating to the point where the shovel is thrown.

Once struck, Miranda falls to the ground and immediately starts to cry. She is later heard saying she had lost her hearing.

The video quickly inspired a hoax news report claiming the beaten-down teen had died after the fight.

“Miranda Fugate died of serious head injuries after being hit with a shovel in the head by an old friend of hers named Emily Powers,” according to the fake report, which was spread on social media sites.

“At first, It only seemed like a minor head injury as Miranda also temporarily lost one ear’s hearing.”

“Suddenly, while watching Mean Girls at home that same day, Miranda collapsed and died instantly.”

“Doctors are saying she died of severe head trauma.”

The clip also got the Vine treatment, including a Kendrick Lamar remix.
